It’s Extension History –
  • 1977: Indian Railways introduced the Chhattisgarh Express to run between Bhopal–Habibganj and Bilaspur Junction as the Habibganj–Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Anchal Express. The train included one AC 2-tier, three AC 3-tier, ten sleeper coaches, six general coaches, and two SLRs.
  • 1980: Railways extended the train to the main Bhopal railway station, renaming it the Bhopal–Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Anchal Express.
  • 1987–1988: Railways added a pantry car to the train and extended its run to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi. They cancelled train number 1225/1226 Bhopal–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, while the Bilaspur–Bhopal Chhattisgarh Anchal Express continued till Hazrat Nizamuddin. At this time, Railways dropped the prefix ‘Anchal’ and renamed it the Chhattisgarh Express.
  • 1997: Railways revised the route again and extended the Chhattisgarh Express further to Amritsar Junction.
  • 1999: It furthermore got Slip coaches from MP Chhindwara.
