Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is a significant railway station that is listed as the World Heritage Site by the headquarters of Central Railways. The structure of building is known to take influences of Mughal and Italian Gothic architecture. This station was designed by Frederick William Steven in 1887, and for his remarkable work on the building, he even received $25,000 from the British government. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus today is one of the busiest railway stations in India. The trains serving long distance journeys, as well as short ones in the suburban visit the station.

In the 19^th century, the Eastern Shore where station is located was called Bori Bunder. This was the place from where goods were exported from Mumbai. The first train was inaugurated from Bori Bunder to Thane and the distance of the journey was 35km. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus during the British rule was called by the name Victoria Terminus, later it was renamed after the 17^th century King.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Facilities –

As Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is one of the most important railway stations of Central Railways, public-private partnership has tried to make it a smart station by including all the modern facilities to passengers. In 2013, a new addition was made when Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Railway Minister inaugurated the air-conditioned dormitories. This facility has 20 beds for women and 58 beds for men. The railway station is fully electrified. It has 18 platforms where facilities such as restaurant, bookshop, cafeteria, washroom, waiting room, ATM, phone booth and a diary shop are offered to passengers. After 2008 Mumbai attacks, this railway station is given the topmost security from Railway Police Force. Special CCTV cameras are also placed at the vulnerable places to avoid crime, robbery, and theft. Pay per use toilets at the station are well maintained to serve passengers any time of the day.

Overview of Asansol Railway Station -ASN

Asansol Railway Station is located in Bardhaman district of Indian State of West Bengal. It is the only railway station available for Asansol and surrounding areas such as Raniganj, Barbani, Maithon, and Salanpur. It is administered by Southern and Eastern Railway. The station has 7 platforms on the ground station.

Asansol Railway Station was constructed in the nineteenth century for the transport of coal from Narayankuri. Before the station was built, Damodar River was the basis for transporting supplies. As the flow of water became inconsistent, railway line was laid between Hooghly to Raniganj. The establishment of the railway station in the region helped to place to develop as an industrial area. The railway lines from Asansol station connect important places like Kharagpur, Howrah and Delhi.

Asansol Railway Station Facilities –

Asansol Railway Station has all the facilities required for the passengers. People can easily buy food at the railway restaurant. To have tea, coffee and other beverages, one can visit the in-house cafeteria. Other than this, passengers have access to book stalls, waiting halls and cloakroom. The train ticket counters are computerized to serve tickets at a faster rate. Digital signboards, train inquiry counters, tourism agent counters and status announcements help the passengers with information regarding arrival and departure of trains.

Each platform has separate air-conditioned waiting hall. Plush chairs, pay and use toilets, and air conditioners serve passenger with the utmost care. To safeguard the station, security equipment such as metal detectors and CCTVs are used at the entrance and public areas. In addition, personnel from Railway Protection Force guard the place at all times. Outside the Asansol Railway Station, parking facility for two wheeler and cars is provided. At the entrance to the railway station, on the left side, there is an auto rickshaw stand and taxi stand on the right. This station is planned to undergo further development in the coming years.

Overview of Vadodara Railway Station – BRC

Vadodara Railway Station, the main station of Vadodara, Gujarat is one of the busiest in the state and the nation. It is the major stop on the western railway zone of the Indian Railways. Built in the year 1861 by Maharaja Khanderao Gaekwad, the station was connected to Bombay, Baroda and Central Indian Railway Company. The station was later re-constructed in the year 1954. Completing 150 years of establishment, there were celebrations on 9^th January, 2010. Shuttling through this station are major trains like August Kranti Rajdhani Expresss, Golden Temple Mail, Mumbai Rajdhani Express, Avantika Express and Trivandrum Rajdhani Express.

Three railway lines within the station are a straight line connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the next being a line between Vadodara and Chhote Udepur and a Delhi line via Ratlam, Kota and Mathura. Trains traversing the northern region use the Ratlam line. All the other trains including the Gujarat Mail, the Suryanagri Express, the Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express and the Ranakpur Express shuttle through the Ahmedabad- Mumbai line. There are about seven platforms in the station.

The Railway Staff College trains all levels of Indian Railway officers from probationers to General Managers. Rich in flora, the campus is spread across 55 acres of land of the Pratap Vilas Palace at Lalbaug, Vadodara.

Vadodara Railway Station Facilities –

For the convenience of passengers, latest facilities have been introduced in the station premises. This station is the first Western Railways station to get a biometric machine for passenger reservation. A passenger friendly system, it generates a token based on thumb impression of a person who wishes to book a ticket. Thwarting the system of booking multiple train tickets, this machine allows the passenger to register again only after three hours.

Two escalators have also been constructed on Platform No. 1 for the convenience of women and old. There are provisions of cloak rooms and waiting rooms as well.

Udaipur was the capital city of the kingdom of Mewar. The Mewar province became a part of Rajasthan after Independence. Coming under the Ajmer division of the North Western Zone of the Indian Railways, the Udaipur Railway Station has a broad gauge network that connects the city with major cities in Rajasthan along with other cities in India such as Jaipur, Kota, Khajuraho, Ajmer, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Alwar, Chittorgarh, Ujjain, Indore, Baroda, Gwalior and Surat. It also has a metre gauge network to Ahmedabad.

Overview of Thivim Railway Station – THVM

Situated in Bardez, North Goa, Thivim is a village which is about 12 kms away from Mapusa. The Thivim Railway station falls under the jurisdiction of the Konkan Railway. It is situated on the Madgaon Sawantwadi rail route. The station is located on a curve with peculiar platforms. Overview of Raipur Railway Station – R

Formerly a part of Madhya Pradesh, Raipur is now the capital city of the newly formed Chhattisgarh. The Raipur Railway Station is the one of the few stations which is awarded the ‘A 1’ position by the Indian Railways. It lies on the South East Central Railway Zone. One of the highest revenue earning stations, it is an important junction on the Howrah- Nagpur- Mumbai line. The Raipur- Vizianagram branch line route emerges from here. Opened in 1888, the station has two lines; one is the Bilaspur- Nagpur section of the Howrah- Nagpur- Mumbai line and the other is the Raipur- Vizianagram line and is connected to many major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Gondia, Saugor, Katni, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kota, Jaipur and Jamshedpur.

The major trains traversing through this station are Gondia- Barauni Express, Gitanjali Express, Shivnath Express, Jagdalpur- Durg Express, Hapa- Bilaspur SF Express and Wainganga SF Express. The section of the Bilaspur- Bhilai line was electrified in 1970-71. There are seven platforms within the station. The nearest airport is the Swami Vivekananda Airport.

Places of tourist attraction within the city are the Mahant Ghasidas Museum, the Guru Tegh Bahadur Museum, the Sushilpikangam Art Gallery and the Mahakoshal Kala Parishad.

New Delhi Railway Station

Situated between Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj is the main railway station of Delhi, the New Delhi Railway Station. This station is considered the third busiest with 500,000 passengers daily. Out of the 300 trains that traverse through this station, the major trains are the Lucknow Swarn Shatabdi Express, the Lucknow Mail, the Chandigarh New Delhi Shatabdi Express, and the Kanpur Shatabdi Express. The station has the largest route interlocking system in the world similar to the Kanpur Central Railway Station, i.e., 48.

Opened in the year 1926 with a single platform, this station now has 16 platforms. About 18 tracks run through the station. It was formerly known as the East Indian Railway Company. For the redevelopment of the New Delhi Railway Station, prior to the Commonwealth Games, Terry Farrell and Partners were commissioned in the year 2007. In the year 2009, a new building on the Ajmeri Gate side was opened by the Northern Railway. The new building spread over three floors has a total floor area of 900 m². The Delhi Metro makes it convenient for passengers to reach the station via yellow line. It is also connected to the Indira Gandhi International Airport through the same metro line.

Overview of Madgaon Railway Station – MAO

Margao stands as second largest populated city of India and cultural capital Of Goa. It is located around 33kms from Panjim from Vasco Da Gama its distance is 27kilomerters. It is also organizational headquarter of South Goa. Earlier it was popular by the name MathaGrama the name was influenced by a temple located there.

The starting settlement of Margao developed from the site of the antiquated Damodar Temple. The first sanctuary was annihilated and the sanctuary tank was topped off to be substituted by the Holy church along with its field. It is said that the god Damodar who is a manifestation of Lord Vishnu was passed by the Zuari River to the Novas Conquistas in which the Sonde Kings were located. Although the western side of the Church created as a commercial center, the settlement developed on the eastern side, which is, the Borda area, with the church in the middle and widened outwards.

Margao’s prominence as a supervisory and business region developed with the growing reliance of the encompassing villages and people; prompting the authoritative focus with the town at its midpointmade in the south. The market place got to be closed to it and was thus called maud-gao (midpoint of village), and from that point forward the city has developed towards the east. Goa was fused into the Indian Union In 1961 and margao was acknowledged as the directorial office of South Goa.

Margao Railway Station is most important station as it is a route intersection situated at the junction of the Konkan Railway and the South Western Railway. All trains stop at Margao as it is Goa’s biggest station. Henceforth it is utilized more usually as a travel stoppage instead of a visitor journey end by numerous persons who either take off down south to Palolemand Colva which are around six kilometers away and are most popular vacation spots.
