Indian Railways Announce Three Special Trains for Kawad Yatra

The Kawad Yatra is scheduled to begin on the 1st of August and post the terrorist attack in Gurdaspur. The safekeeping for this annual Yatra has increased for all the devotees. Not just this, but the Northern Railway declared that they would run three exclusive trains for Kawad Yatra. Two trains will run daily from the capital city. Delhi to Haridwar through Shamli and the other special train will run every day passing through Hapur. These trains will be active from 1st to 12th August.

With this facility in force, it is also decided that one magistrate and officer would be posted in each sector from where the routes pass. There are CCTV cameras installed at all the sensitive areas. Plus, inspectors dressed in casuals will go along with the devotees throughout the route for safety reasons.

The health department of Uttar Pradesh has booked a ward in the district hospital and about hundred beds are reserved for any aid for the travellers. Other than this, about 24 mobile vans are arranged to provide any sort of treatment.

About Kawad Yatra

Kawadias are Lord Shiva devotees and followers, who come together and gather at Haridwar every year to take a dip and collect water of the holy river Ganga to offer it to Lord Shiva. This Yatra starts from August 1st and ends by August 12th. The followers pay respect and homage at several Shiva temples along the route. A lot of devotees observe a fast on Mondays during the month of Shravan when this yatra takes place. Most of the pilgrims are men, but these days a lot of women are participating in the Yatra too. Different modes of travel are taken up by these followers. Few opt for bicycles, motor cycles, scooters, mini trucks or jeeps.

A lot of Hindu organizations set up camps along the National Highway during this time to provide food, shelter, medical help and other things when the travellers are tired or need some support. The Kawad Yatra, also known as Kanwar Yatra, is related to the blending of ocean of milk in the Hindu Puranas. When poison came out before Amrita and the universe started scorching from the heat, it was Lord Shiva who agreed to inhale this poison in order to save the world. But after inhaling it, he was in agony from the negatives of the poison. In Treta Yuga, Lord Shiva’s sincere follower Ravana did meditation. He got holy water of Ganga by using kanwar and poured it on Lord Shiva’s temple in Puramahadev. This released the Lord from negatives of the poison.

The Yatra began in 1960 and is now a big affair for all the saints and devotees of Lord Shiva.

The distance covered by the mail is 2160 km and the travel time is of 37 hours and 55 minutes.

About 12934/33 Karnavati Express

The daily superfast Karnavati Express is a chair car service between Ahmedabad Junction (station code ADI) and Mumbai Central (station code BCT). It traverses a distance of 491 km in 7 hours 40 minutes, thus giving it an average speed of 64 km/hr. The train’s average speed exceeds 55 km/hr and so the superfast surcharge is added to the fare. The train travels through the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

It halts at 10 stations in between. Important stations among these are Borivali, Surat, Vadodara and Nadiad. Western Railway introduced the train on July 1, 1991. They named it after the 12th-century Karnavati city, near present-day Ahmedabad. Solanki ruler of Anhilwara (now Patan) Karandev had built the city on the banks of the Sabarmati.

The 12934 Karnavati Express starts from Ahmedabad Junction at 04:55 am and arrives at Mumbai Central at 12.35 pm. The 12933 Karnavati Express leaves Mumbai Central at 1.40 pm and arrives at Ahmedabad Junction at 9.25 pm. The Karnavati Express has four AC chair cars, 11 second class seating, 2 general unreserved coaches, a pantry car and 2 luggage cum generator coaches. The train traction is by a WAP 4 or WAP 5 locomotive. Until 2012, when AC system was completed, dual traction WCAM 1 or WCAM 2/2P locos locos were being used.

The 12280/79 Taj Express running every day between Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station and Jhansi Junction initially started its service between New Delhi and Agra in 1964. New Delhi and Agra continue to be major tourist attractions of India; one being the capital of the country, while the other holds the most beautiful monuments of country. Seeing the massive flow of tourists between these locations throughout the year, the government launched the Taj Express, which came as a great relief and soon became the first choice of national and international tourists across the country.

The importance of the Taj Express for daily travelers increased largely when the train was extended till Jhansi Junction on July 1 2006. The Taj Express now covered other major locations like Gwalior and Jhansi as well. Hence, the Taj Express today covers 403kms in approximately 7hours.

The Taj leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station at 7:05 am every day and on its route it halts at nine stations which are, Faridabad, Mathura, Raja Ki Mandi (Agra), Agra Cantt, Dhaulpur, Morena, Gwalior Junction, Dabra, Datia and Jhansi. If on time, the Taj Express ends its journey at Jhansi Junction at 2:00 pm on the same day. The return train, which is 12279 Taj Express, departs from Jhansi at 3:20 pm and reaches back to Nizamuddin railway station by 10:05 pm same night.

The 12280/79 Taj express was aimed at easy daily travel for working individuals. Yet another train with the concept of Palace on Wheels as its ideal, Deccan Odyssey Express is a train to give a fillip to luxury tourism on the Konkan route of the Indian Railways.

A crown jewel of Maharashtra tourism, it is a collaborative project between Maharashtra Government and the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi.

Apart from reaching tourism hot-spots, the train is a moving five-star hotel having two restaurants, a bar, a sauna centre, and also a business centre. Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory, the coaches come with special amenities.

This luxury train was scrapped in 2004 by the state government claiming poor response but has been reinstated since.

This train takes passenger on a tour of 7 nights, beginning every Wednesday at Mumbai.

Accommodation –

The train has 10 deluxe cabin saloons. Each deluxe cabin saloon boasts of four twin-bedded chambers, and two fully air-conditioned Presidential Suite saloons, each of which has two suites with a combination of the living room and bedroom. Saloons come with music systems, intercom, attached toilets, running hot and cold water, carpet, shower and more of such amenities.

The train begins its journey from Mumbai and takes passengers to Sindhudurg, Goa, Vasco, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, and lastly to Nashik. It makes the return journey from Nashik back to Mumbai.
