Journeying with easy during the Poojas

One of the most important festivals that are celebrated throughout India is Navaratri. In fact, this is the only festival that is celebrated with such great pomp in almost every state of the country.

The Navaratri is a nine-day festival that celebrates the power and prowess of three main Goddesses of the Hindu pantheon- Durga, Saraswathi and Lakshmi. In fact, in most of the states, ceremonies are conducted that pay obeisance to Durga and Lakshmi, particularly. While Navaratri is celebrated with a lot of vigour in the North Indian states, Durga Puja, which falls within the overall Navaratri celebrations, is celebrated with great pomp in West Bengal. Durga Puja is also celebrated widely in Delhi, Mumbai and Varanasi.

Thus, needless to say this nine-day festival surrounding Navaratri and Durga Puja creates a lot of rush throughout the country. People travel from far and near to join their families during these celebrations. This is also a time when educational institutes remain closed for the festivities. Thus, there is also a great rush of students, who head back home to their families. Train compartments remain jam packed, and it becomes extremely difficult to get a reserved seat during this time.

In order to contain and control this rush, the railways introduce Pooja special trains that make it possible to accommodate the large number of people who travel during this time of the year. These trains are an addition to the regularly plying ones. They help in making it easier for people to travel to their preferred destination within the country.

Containing the rush during the festivals in August and September

The month of August is a busy time when it comes to considering the festivals that are celebrated in India. Quite a few number of festivals fall during this month. The country also observes a national holiday on the 15^th of August.

Of the many religious festivals that are celebrated during this time of the year, the two most important ones are Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami. On Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie rakhi on their brothers’ wrists and even exchange gifts. Siblings who stay in different cities try to meet up to celebrate this important festival together. Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Krishna. People generally conduct pujas at their homes and dress up the idols of a baby Krishna is new and colourful attires. For some north Indian families, this is a very important festival, and hence, they prefer to spend it at home with their respective families. If the holiday for 15^th August falls on a Friday or Monday, people also try and manage an extended weekend and travel back home.

Thus, during this time of the year, there is a general rush for train tickets throughout the month. If by any chance Ganesh Chaturthi falls sometime in August, then the rush increases two folds. In order to tackle the mad rush, the Indian Railways, thus, run a few special trains during this month. These All special trains help in dividing the rush and make it easier for people to travel back home to their families. IRCTC (Indian Railway catering and Tourism Corporation) in conjunction with Indian Railways have achieved various marks it in the history of Indian Railways. With the commencement of online web based booking portals to now smart-phone apps, everything has been automated to make the whole experience quite convenient and easy. It was years ago when people had to stand in long queues for hours to get one ticket booked at a time. Now with the help of online web portal you can easily book six tickets at one time. Apart from booking tickets you can also cancel and reschedule your tickets via the online portal.

To add more convenience, Indian railways have joined hands with many online portals to deliver food in the train. Now you don’t have to eat the boring food served in the train all time, especially if you are a frequent traveller. You can easily now select your choice of food and can get it delivered hot and fresh directly on your seats. IRCTC is constantly endeavouring to achieve new milestones every year and hence to cater to more number of passengers this year, IRCTC has announced starting of summer special trains in 2016 through North India.

What is summer special train?

Summer sees the maximum number of passengers travelling from every part of the country. Many families plan their holidays during summer with the beginning of summer holidays in school. Hence, people start making their bookings from the month of March so that can easily get the confirmed bookings on the train. In lieu of this rush, the government have decided to start summer special trains that will cater to passengers travelling during these months.

Various northern Railway zones have announced running of summer special trains to cater to the extra rush of passengers during the summer holiday months. These trains will be running across the intricate rail networks of Northern India. The service will be applicable during the months of April, May and June 2016 connecting Delhi to Northern states of India. All these trains will run under Northern Railway. Summers are the time when you can see maximum rush on the railway stations. More and more people plan their vacations during the summer seasons in correspondence to school holidays. However, people find it a pain to book tickets for trains especially if you have not planned your vacations in advance. Northern Railways runs Holi Special trains!

The Indian Railways is always ready with something for every festival, since Holi is just around the corner; the Northern Railways has already started running weekly exclusive trains. Read on to know more details: –

The railway line will run a weekly exclusive train from Gorakhpur to Bandra Terminus from the 3^rd March to the 31^st. This train is scheduled for every Thursday while the one from Bandra to Gorakhpur will be on every Saturday. An official press release stated that this weekly special will halt at several stations like Lucknow, Barabanki, Basti, Khalilabad, Kanpur Central, Kannauj, Mathura Jn, Kota, Bharatpur, Vadodara, Nagda, Surat, Virar, Borivali and many other stations.

There are two other trains from Bhubaneswar to Patna and Puri to Bhanjapur too, which will run during this festive time. The former train will be running on March 18^th and 25^th while the latter will be running on March 19^th and 26^th.

The Bhubaneswar to Patna train will be stopped at stations like Jaipur, Asansol, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Hijli, Mokama and many others. The Puri to Bhanjapur train will stop at stations like Khurda Road, Jajpur, Rupsa, Balasore, Soro, Bhubaneswar, and many others. Also, this train will be discontinued on March 26^th.

All these trains are meant to lessen the berserk crowd during this festive time.

Konkan Railway announces a special train for Holi 2016!

While the Northern, Eastern and Central Railway lines are already running weekly special trains for the Holi time, Konkan Railway is not stepping behind. The railway line will be running an exclusive train for the Holi festival for passengers. The route will be from Madgaon to Mumbai CST to Madgaon again. This is to keep the rush of passengers in control during this time.

The Madgaon to Mumbai CST train will be running on March 8^th and will come back on March 9^th to CST again. This will go back to Madgaon on the same day. So, if you want to travel to Madgaon for few hours and return, you have this incredible option. The train will be halting at several important stations like Ratnagiri, Khed, Karmali, Kudal, Dadar, Thane, Roha, Madgaon, Chiplun, Sawantwadi and many others.

This train will be helpful for those who just want to travel within a span of 2 days to Madgaon and come back to Mumbai.

Ganpati Festival Special Trains: A Welcome Move by Indian Railways for an Auspicious Occasion

Indian Railways, the Central division to be more precise, has brought a lot of cheer to many people this year by facilitating 60 Ganpati festival special trains.

Mumbai is a city that is known for many wonderful things – its resilience, its love story with the Arabian Sea, its citizens who range from the Bollywood badshaahs to the Dabbawallas, the nightlife that one can enjoy there and its partiality to Ganpati Bappa. Every year, the months of August, September and even a part of October are hectic for people in and away from Mumbai because people are busy moving from one part of the city to another to celebrate this holy yet fun occasion and away, because those whose homes are away from Mumbai would like to be their own families during this festive season. It is no wonder that the transport services, be it air or road, are flooded with orders during these months, and many people end up getting disappointed because they are unable to get the travel tickets they want in time, or they are very expensive during this period, or because there is a shortage of transport vehicles.

This year, Central Railways have decided to introduce special 60 Ganpati special trains to try and minimise the number of stranded and disappointed Mumbaikars.

Here is a list of some of the important trains that are scheduled to operate during this year on a special basis:

Train number 01001 Mumbai-Madgaon CST Mumbai Special is scheduled to depart from CST Mumbai at 12.20 AM (just a little after midnight) every day except on Thursdays. This train will reach Madgaon at 2.10 PM the same day. This train will be available from September 11^th to September 29^th.
Train number 01002 is scheduled to depart from Madgaon at 2.40 every day except on Thursdays and will reach Mumbai CST at 4.25 AM (wee hours of the morning), the next day. This train will also be available between September 11^th and September 29^th.
Train number 01033 is scheduled to depart from Mumbai CST 12.20 AM every Thursday, in the place of train number 01001, and will also reach Madgaon the same day at 2.10 PM. This train will be available from September 10^th to 1^st
Train number 01034 is scheduled to depart from Madgaon at 3.25 PM on every Thursday and will reach Mumbai CST at 4.25 AM, the next day. This train is in the place of train number 01002 which will not depart on Thursday. This train is also available from September 10^th to 1^st
Train number 01095, called the Dadar-Sawantwadi, will have three runs per week and will be available from September 11^th to September 29^th. This train is scheduled to depart at 7.50AM from Dadar every Sunday, Tuesday and Friday and will arrive at Sawantwadi the same day at 8.30 PM.
Train number 01096 will depart from Sawantwadi on every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and will arrive at Dadar at 3.50 PM of the same day and will be available from September 11^th to September 30^th.
