Overview of Howrah Railway Station – HWH

Howrah railway station is the oldest railway station in city of Kolkata. It holds 23 platforms and it has the most astounding train-taking care of limit of any track station in India; and is one of the busiest line stations regarding traveler capacity for every day.Earlier the city came under the Bengali Kingdom from “Bhurshut” earlier in 1578 it was known as Buttor. The origin of the name Howrah came from the word Haor which indicates “Marsh”. The first passenger train was also initiated through Howrah to Hooghly. Luggage keeping facility is also available at station for visitors.

Tourist Places nearby Howrah Railway Station –

Howrah bridge, Belur Math, VidyasagarSetu, Santragachi Lake and Gadiara, these places will make you mesmerized and specially the Howrah Bridge which is built over Hooghly River and is one of the foremost landmark of the city. This bridge connects the two cities that is Howrah and Kolkata, the best time to catch the view of bridge is night as the complete bridge is light up.

A very famous Banyan Tree which is known for largest shade or Canopy throughout the world is also planted here in Shibpur. Its engineering and Science colleges are also one of the oldest colleges in India, so the education center is also a great attraction for the students. Howrah is located at a very short distance from Kolkata, so it is developing rapidly but the city is very popular as Industrial hub. Not only industrial hub but also praised by the people for the art, culture and tradition that is followed by the people here. It comes under second largest and leading city of WB and local language is Bengali.
