Rewari is located in Rewari district of Haryana, and like any other place, it has a history of its own to tell. During the period of Mahabharata, there was a king named Rewat and his daughter, Rewati. The king founded and named a city called ‘Rewa wadi’ after the name of his daughter and later the city was donated as a dowry to Balram, elder brother of Krishna (Lord). This city then became popular as Rewari.

As per Govt. of Haryana, as on November 1^st, 1989, Rewari boundaries has Jhajjar in its north, Mahendergarh in the west, Gurgaon towards east and northeast and Alwar in Rajasthan touching its southern tip. It is, therefore, having all castes living in harmony including Ahirs, Punjabis and Guptas among which Punjabis and the Guptas are the main trading classes. Earlier, it was ruled by Maurya, Gupta and Gujjars.

Rewari is a junction and above 50 trains do have a stop here. Nearby main stations also include Kishengarh Blws and Kumbhawas Munda, Delhi and Rohtak being around 80Km. There are six broad gauge lines namely Delhi, Ajmer via alwar- Jaipur, Ajmer via Ringas, Loharu via Churu, Hisar and Bhatinda and, Jhajjhar and Rohtak.

The actual establishment of Rewari railway station was in year 1873, few years later than the 82 km first commercial metre gauge railway track of India had been laid from Delhi Railways to Rewari by Rajputana State Railway in 1872. 41 km extensive rails had been laid about a year before than from Delhi to Garhi Harsaru, which was used in carrying flourishing salt productions.

Rewari Railway Junction Station (Station Code: RE) is located 82 km south-west of Old Delhi and 65 km south-west of the nearest large Palam Airport, New Delhi. Its exact address being Station Road, Rewari, Haryana, India, it is at an altitude of 246 metres above sea level. It has 11 separate platforms to cater to the 50 plus express trains coming and exiting everyday through 6 routes of North Western Railway zone under Jaipur Division.

Also, there is a Heritage Steam Locomotive Museum, a landmark where movies like Gandhi, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Guru and Gadar had been shot, adjoining platform no 1.
