Overview of Krishnarajapuram Railway Station

Krishnarajapuram Railway Station or K.R. Puram is a suburb 15 km from Bangalore City Railway Station. A taluka headquarters, it has many government offices. The Vengayyana Lake is at its centre and the large Yelemallappa Shetty Lake is on the east of Krishnarajapuram.

Krishnarajapuram Junction Railway Station (station code KJM) serves the international tech park along and the nearby region where many of its staffers live. So, many trains halt at Krishnarajapuram station. Krishnarajapuram Junction is on the Bangalore-Chennai main line of the South Western Railway in the Bangalore division.  There is also a line to Guntakal and this track is used mostly by goods trains and oil tankers. A few Tamil Nadu and Kerala express trains heading towards the north use this line to bypass Bangalore. All trains going from Yeshvantapur Railway Station towards Bangarpet stop at Krishnarajapuram Junction.

Krishnarajapuram has four platforms and has two tracks for non-stop trains. Long-distance trains stop on platform No. 4 and incoming trains at platform No. 3. The short platform No. 1 receives goods and mail trains.  It is a busy station with as many as 89 trains stopping at the station every day. Indian Railways connects the station to cities such as Chennai, Arakkonam, Bhubaneswar, Howrah, Brindavan, Nagercoil, Mumbai, Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore, and Rajkot through its railway network.

Facilities at Krishnarajapuram Station

Krishnarajapuram Junction Railway Station has a computerized ticket booking and reservation counters, a food court, waiting room for upper classes, pre-paid auto-rickshaws, tea stalls and drinking water facilities. A general waiting room too is at the planning stage. Authorities upgraded the old station about a year ago and extended its short platforms to accommodate trains with more coaches. They also covered the platforms. However, regular commuters say the station still faces water shortages and needs stronger security.

Overview of Panvel Railway Station – PNVL

With a heavy population, Panvel was once connected through land and sea trade routes. The Panvel Railway Station of Maharashtra is one of the most important junctions of the Central Railway. Having seven platforms, the station has four suburban and three main lines. The three main lines that meet at Panvel Junction are the harbour line from Mumbai CST (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus). The Central line from Diva/Kalyan/Bhiwandi and from Roha, Central Line from Karjat, Western Freight Corridor from JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust). Two more platforms are underway. There are 10 tracks in the station.

Platform Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 station Suburban trains and Platforms Nos. 5, 6 and 7 station Main Line Trains. Nearly, 18 daily-express trains, 26 non-daily express trains and 12 daily commuter (passenger) trains shuttle through Panvel Junction. In addition to this, there are about 116 Suburban trains journeying through this station to Thane, Mumbai CST, Andheri and Wadala Road. The Ernakulam- Nizamuddin Duronto halts here for crew change, catering and refuelling. Sizeable amounts of freight trains also move via this station. Equivalent to the Mumbai Railway Station. This station is an important one for those trains that do not stop at Mumbai.

The important trains that traverse through the Panvel Junction are the Konkan Kanya Express The Ernakulam- Pune Superfast Express, the Rajya Rani Express, the Ahmedabad- Manglore Superfast Express and the Mumbai Express.

Panvel Railway Station Facilities (PNVL)

Rebuilt in the year 2007, the Panvel Railway Station is the pivotal centre for the refuelling of trains. Unlike other tracks to Konkan, south to Panvel, this station is electrified. Parcel bookings, crew and locomotive change are also handled within this station. Waiting rooms and cloak rooms are at the passengers’ disposal within the station premises. Parking facilities are also available around the junction. Refreshment stalls and canteen provide snacks and food.

It has been serving millions of people from more than a century since its establishment in India in 1853 by East India Company. Indian Railways operates more than 8,000 railway stations, and it equips most of them with modern passenger amenities. The affordable fares and good services make it the ideal means of transport for people of India. Indian Railways carries millions of passengers and tonnes of freight to various destinations every day. The Ministry of Railways under the Government of India manages Indian Railways. Which it has divided into 18 zones and 68 divisions.

Vijayawada is a major city located at the banks of the river Krishna in the state of Andhra Pradesh of Southern India. It is also known as the economic capital of Andhra Pradesh due to its involvement in large-scale trading and business activities. After Visakhapatnam, it is the largest city of Andhra Pradesh in terms of area. With an annual GDP of $3 billion. It is one of the most important economic hubs of the state and is expected to increase its GDP up to $17billion annually by 2025. Railways have played an important role in the growth of Vijayawada.

There are eleven small and big railway stations in Vijayawada serving people and economy of Vijayawada. These stations are Vijayawada Railway station (BZA), Madhuranagar Station (MDUN), Gunadala station (GALA), Rayanapadu station (RYP), Kondapalli station (KI), Nidamanuru station (NDM), Krishna Canal railway station (KCC), Ramavarappadu station (RMV), Mustabada Station (MBD), and Gannavaram station (GWM).

Vijayawada Railway Station (BZA) –

Vijayawada Railway station or BZA was established in the year 1888 is an important railway station that is controlled by the Vijayawada railway division of Southern Railway Zone. It lies on the Howrah-Chennai main line.

Lines that Pass through Vijayawada Railway Station are;

  • Vijayawada-Guntakal line
  • Vijayawada–Chennai section
  • Vijayawada-Howrah line
  • Vijayawada-Machilipatnam line
  • Vijayawada-Kazipet line
  • Vijayawada-New Delhi line

The railway station has a total of ten platforms that are equipped with all the basic amenities for passengers. All the platforms are long enough to handle trains with more than 24 coaches. The platform no. 7 and 8 have an additional track in between them, which serves as a service line for goods trains. It has five entrances with each having a computerised ticket booking office. And it receives more than 250 passenger trains and more than 150 freight trains on a daily basis making it one of the most engaged railway stations in the network of Indian Railways hosting more than 50 million passengers annually.

It is an A-1 grade station of Southern Railway Zone and generates revenue of more than 100 crore in a financial year.

Vijayawada railway station has a standard layout of the station with an efficient traction inside the station with 22 tracks. All the lines and tracks of Vijayawada station are broad gauge and electrified except one. The Machlipatnam – Vijayawada line is non-electrified, hence diesel locomotives are used for the traffic on this line.

The railway station of Vijayawada also acts as a junction for lines coming from five different Directions.

These lines are;
  • Vijayawada – Gudur – Tenali – Chennai
  • Vijayawada – Guntakal – Bangalore – Guntur
  • Vijayawada – Warangal
  • Vijayawada – Rajamundry– Eluru – Howrah
  • Vijayawada – Machilipatnam – Gudivada

There is a Diesel loco Shed with a capacity of 100 locomotives. And also, an electric loc shed which has WAG-7, WAM-4 and WAG-5 models. After authorities shifted the headquarters of the South Eastern Railway Zone from Visakhapatnam to Bhubaneswar. The Vijayawada Railway Station underwent significant development and received an enhanced appearance in recent years. Officials introduced the Integrated Security Scheme as one of the most important upgrades. Which led to the construction of a concrete wall around the station premises and the installation of advanced surveillance and security systems at every entry and exit point. Authorities also focused on minimizing the number of entry and exit points as an added precaution against emerging security threats in India.

The railway station of Vijayawada is an important asset of the city. And has been playing an important role in the rapid growth of the city.
