The honourable Railway Minister of India Suresh Prabhu flagged off this tri-weekly express train on 12th July 2016 held at Vijayawada railway junction. Running with two train numbers 17215 and 17216, train no. 17215 leaves Vijayawada station at about 23:10 hours and reaches Dharmavaram next day at 10:45 AM.

Train number 17215 runs on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and stops at Guntur station. On the opposite hand, train number 17216 leaves Dharmavaram at about 17:50 hours and reaches Vijayawada station at 6:50 hours next day. It has been operating on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and takes the same halt as of train number 17215 at Guntur station.

Along with Guntur station, train takes stoppages at Vinukonda, Narasaraopet, Giddalur, Markapur road, Dhone, Nandyal, Ananthapur and Gooty railway junctions. Venkatadri Express is one of the express trains from Indian Railways that runs connecting Chittoor to Hyderabad. As per Indian Railways, the train numbers 12797 and 12798 are the two sets that run vice versa from both the stations. This train connects Kacheguda to Chittoor and comprises 1 first AC cum 2nd AC, 3 three tiers AC, 12 sleeper class, 5 general second sitting coaches. Travelling by the Goa Express is a joy because the route it travels along is so picturesque. Goa Express takes 39 1/2 hours for this 2,202-kilometre journey and travels through several other Indian states such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. It also travels through Rajasthan briefly, passing through Dhaulpur without halting.

This train can be considered to be akin to Andhra Pradesh Express and Karnataka Express, which connect their respective state capitals to New Delhi. Vasco Da Gama is the nearest railway junction to Panjim, as Goa’s capital remains out of reach by train.

Goa Express: A Historical Perspective –

Goa Express started operating in 1987. Thus, it began running even before the evolution of Konkan Railways. The rail links were meter gauge in Goa at the time, and Goa Express had to run with a broad gauge and meter gauge counterpart. The section between Vasco Da Gama and Miraj was meter gauge and between Miraj and Hazrat Nizamuddin was broad gauge.

At the time of inauguration, Goa Express was allotted the number 2479/2480 with Delhi division of Northern Railways responsible for its upkeep. After the entire journey had become broad gauge, maintenance was handed over to the Hubli Division and the train was allotted its present number.

Stoppages & Accommodation –

The Goa Express stops at several prominent locations such as Margao, Londa, Belgaum, Miraj, Sangli, Satara, Pune and Daund. It also halts at Manmad, Bhusawal, Khandwa, Itarsi, Bhopal, Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra and Mathura.

Goa Express has 22 compartments: 2 AC 2- tiers, 3 AC3-tiers, 11 sleeper class, 3 general, a pantry car, and 2 Luggage-cum-Parcel brake vans.

The Rajya Rani are simply a series of daily and tri-weekly express trains, launched to improve connectivity between the state capital and major cities of the state. The first train in the series of Rajya Rani Trains was the Mysore-Bangalore Rajya Rani Express that started its service on July 01 2011. The Rajya Rani Express series today serves states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh ad Bihar.

Suvidha trains are known to be running and based upon dynamic fare system according to which fares will include everything including service tax, reservation charge, catering charge, S/F and more. At the time of charting, current booking counters will offer vacant berths as well. And at the time of booking tickets, passengers will be provided by each bit of information. It is been applicable w.e.f 1st July, 2017 and for flat cancellation of tickets, charge will get deduced depending on the class of travel. The price of ticket is definitely not going to see any downward movement and these special trains have undoubtedly dynamic fare system that people should be aware of.

The latest good news for the passengers of Indian Railway is that the Railway Ministry has planned to lunch Suvidha Trains for benefit of each and every citizen across the country and for those foreigners who would like to visit the different parts of the country. But the facilities do come with following conditions and terms. Only RAC and confirmed passengers will be issued with accommodation. No provision is present for waiting list.

  • There is given a 30 day advance reservation period at the maximum and the 10 days for the minimum period. Within this limit, the precise ARP for every train is to be determined by the Zonal Railways.
  • These trains will not have any concessions. Irrespective of age, all passengers are to be charged full adult fare. Moreover, complimentary passes/ free passes/ concessional voucher/warrant, etc. are not permitted in such trains.

  • Cluster booking/ duplicate ticket/ BPT/ modifications are not allowed.
  • Booking of general quota is applicable only.
  • These trains do not have upgradation option.
  • Any of the valid Identity Cards is to be produced by passengers for verification purpose during the journey for PRS ticket and e-ticket.
  • Such train services, depending upon demand pattern might run at peak seasons such as summer rush, winter rush, Holi rush, Dussehara rush as well as other occasions as decided jointly by Zonal Railways’ CCMs and COMs.
  • These trains do not have any kind of composition in it like 2nd sitting coach/ general class/ executive class/ First Class/ First AC.

There Has Been Proposal For Three Such Train Service Types:

  • Fully AC services without/with stoppages: Its Base Price – (Tatkal charges + Rajdhani base fare)
  • Mixed services not having enroute commercial stoppages based upon mixed Duronto pattern: Its Base Price – (Tatkal charges + base fare of Mixed Duronto).
  • Mixed services having few enroute stoppages and running as Express/Mail: Its Base Price: (Tatkal charges + Express/Mail base fare).
  • Besides the above, Zonal Railways has planned to introduce fully AC Shatabdi or Double Decker types, if there is huge demand with respective train category fares given
  • These trains run upon dynamic fare system. There are also there charges to be availed in full, added up to the base fare such as catering charge, reservation charge, service tax, S/F, etc.
  • Current booking counters are to be offered with vacant berth, during charting time. Current counters having tickets is to be sold at last price for the class along with supplementary charges such as super fast charges, reservation charges, applicable service tax, catering charges and superfast charges.
  • At the time of booking, passengers would be displayed with information, if lower class fare becomes higher than that of higher class for exercising the option to choose travelling by high class.
  • Fare is not to see any downward movement.
  • Flat cancellation charge of Rs. 100 for AC – 2 Tier / First Class, Rs. 90 for AC – 3 Tier / 3 Economy / AC chair car, Rs. 60 for Sleeper class is to be provided for RAC / Confirmed tickets before 6 hours of the train’s scheduled departure and to be provided with 50% refund on fare. After that, no fare refund is entitled and is granted only by filing TDR for e-tickets and for PRS counter ticket across counter.
  • Such services are anticipated special trains and above regular train services upon Tatkal fares.
  • It is w.e.f. 01.07.2015 that there has been implementation of the above guidelines by the Indian Railways.

As per the information, it has been operating on 5 circuits running and covering over 12 destinations across North and Central India, primarily covering the Rajasthan state. It began its operations in 2010 and it was voted twice consecutively in 2012 and 2013 as the World’s leading luxury train in the World Travel awards. In total, it has 23 carriages covering bar, lounge, accommodation, dining, generator and store cars. There are 14 guest cabins for the accommodation with a total capacity of 88 in them. The Maharajas’ Express is operated and owned by the IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation). It is the costliest among luxury trains in the world.

It, usually, operates between October and April. It operates on 5 circuits, traversing more than 12 places across central and North West India, mainly covering the state of Rajasthan.

The Maharaja’s Express was voted twice in a row as the “World’s Leading Luxury Train” at the World Travel Awards of 2012 and 2013. It made it to the 2011 list of the World’s Top 25 trains listed by the Society of International Railway Travellers. It was lauded for its dining facilities and onboard accommodation, as well as excursion program of the train. Also, the first runner up award in the 2011 category of Specialist Train Operators at Reader Choice Travel Award of Conde Nast Travellers was won by this train.

History –

This luxury train service was begun in 2010, March. The IRCTC joined with Cox and Kings Ltd. to sign a joint venture called as Royale Indian Rail tours Ltd. to run the management and functioning of the Maharajas’ Express. However, this joint venture was dissolved in 2011 and the Express is now being managed alone by the IRCTC. Today, it has been the recipient of many awards and is the only train in the world, which has a presidential suite stretching over a whole carriage.

Facilities –

This train has been equipped with modern amenities to provide an extremely pleasant journey to the passenger. The facilities include Wi-Fi, Live television, Pneumatic suspension, dining cars, attached bath room, souvenir shop, bar and lounge. Roll-top baths are found in large cabins as well as spacious sitting rooms.

Carriages –

The train consists of 23 carriages including bar, dining, lounge, accommodation, store cars and generator. Accommodation is arranged in 14 guest cabins with total capacity of 88. There is also a private lounge named Rajah Club with two dining cars, a bar and a devoted bar-car. A souvenir boutique aboard the train offers trinkets and memorabilia for passengers. A water filtration plant is also part of the train.

88 guests can be accommodated in 14 carriages with 43 exclusive cabins. There are 4 suites, 18 junior suites, 20 deluxe cabins and a Presidential suite. The Presidential Suite offers 5-star type accommodation including a bath tub in the bath room.

Every guest cabin features phone with direct dial, LCD televisions, DVD players, eco-friendly toilets, internet, electronic safes and individual climate control.

The category of deluxe cabins features 5 carriages comprising a total of 20 cabins catering to 40 passengers (5 double beds and 15 twin beds). There are 18 cabins in the Junior Suites category catering to 36 passengers. The Presidential Suite covers an entire carriage including a separate dining-cum- sitting room, a bathroom having shower and bathtub and a twin bedroom.
