Malwa has been a distinct political and cultural unit over the ages. The predominantly agricultural Malwa was ruled by many dynasties. It has seen great personalities like Kalidas and Raja Bhoj. The region shows a blend of Maharashtrian, Rajasthani, Gujarati and Islamic influences.

An Exercise in Diplomacy;
The train was first introduced between Indore and New Delhi but was then extended to Jammu Tawi. During October-November 1985, the train was run once a week on Fridays in each direction between Indore and Lahore in Pakistan. It was train diplomacy between India and Pakistan. But the Indore- Lahore Special was withdrawn after 55 days after some controversies.
