Everything About the Luxurious Train – Tejas Express

Inaugurated by the honourable Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. The premium luxurious and royal train popularly known as Tejas Express began its inaugural journey on Monday, May 22, 2017. It is designed to operate at a maximum speed of 200 kmph. Though due to track limitations it currently runs at around 160 kmph. The first journey started from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 3:25 PM and reached Karmali railway station in approximately 9 hours. This modern train is equipped with advanced facilities like CCTV, Wi-Fi, fire and smoke detection systems, and much more. As per operations, the train runs three days a week during non-monsoon periods and about five days a week during the monsoon season. The 15-coach train includes 12 chair car coaches and one executive AC coach, all manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala.

Tejas Express stands out for its world-class amenities and smart features designed for passenger comfort. It offers comfortable seating with premium cushioning, automatic doors, and LHB coaches with higher capacity and safety standards. Passengers can enjoy GPS-based information systems, entertainment screens with headphone sockets, LED display boards, and aesthetically designed interiors with bright color schemes. Additional features include dust-sealed gangways, automatic blinds on windows, concealed LED lighting, and a modern passenger announcement system. Designers equip each seat with reading lights, charging points, bottle holders, snack tables, and magazine racks. They also prioritize safety and hygiene by installing bio-vacuum toilets, sensor-based taps, soap dispensers, hand dryers, water level indicators, CCTV monitoring, and digital reservation charts.

Fare, Schedule, and Travel Experience

According to Indian Railways, Tejas Express fares are higher than those of other superfast trains like the Shatabdi Express. Often costing up to three times more due to its premium services. During the monsoon season, travel time may increase by 2 to 3 hours. And passengers opting for catering services may incur additional charges for extra meals. Catering on this train is managed by IRCTC, offering a wide variety of hygienic and quality food options. The train operates with numbers 22119 and 22120. Train 22119 runs from Mumbai to Karmali on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, departing at 05:00 hours and arriving at 13:30 hours. Train 22120 returns from Karmali at 14:30 hours and reaches Mumbai at 23:00 hours the same day. Enjoy a premium and comfortable journey experience with Tejas Express!
