Are you a frequent train traveller? If yes, this might not be good and happy news for you then as IRCTC has decided to put a stop on the free travel insurance starting right from September 1st of this year. So, passengers at the time of booking tickets online need to select from either one of the two options that is opt-in or opt-out. As per the record, from December 2017 onwards, the department IRCTC has been providing free travel insurance to all passengers travelling in trains as a tactic to give a boost to digital transactions. In fact, just to bring it to your kind attention that the department has even waived off any ticket booking charge if there for the users, who used to do the payment using debit cards.
As per IRCTC department, the travel insurance that is provided is consistent to all travelling in different classes of travel. As per the insurance, the maximum cover that is applicable is Rs. 10 Lakh in case of the person’s death during the travel, Rs. 7.50 Lakh in case the person’s gets disabled due to train accident, Rs. 2 Lakh in case the person is injured and Rs. 10,000 for the transportation of the mortal. The thing that needs to be remembered is that children below 5 years of age are not eligible under the insurance. To cater this travel insurance to people travelling, IRCTC has collaborated up with Royal Sundaram General insurance, ICICI Lombard General insurance and Shriram general insurance firms. In return of the same, 92 paisa per traveller was been paid to the insurance firms as a part of and on behalf of Railway corporation. But, now from 1st September onwards, the travel expense needs be taken care of by them as the department has decided to finish the policy. At present, it is not concise and very clear about the fact how a traveller will pay for the insurance.
